Shoe Closet Dreams Do Come True

Those who know me well, know I'm crazy about shoes. I like to think of myself as a shoe collector really. I have no idea how many pairs I have- I'm not obsessive about it or anything- but it's quite a few. I like to think I'm giving these shoes a good home- I often shop consignment shops, which allows me the ability to afford some pretty nice things. They are like pieces of art that I can wear, so it's a great investment in my eyes.

I have always loved the idea of displaying the things you love, but I've never had the space until we moved into the new house. When I spied this tiny "closet" off of the master, I knew it was destined to become the future home for all of my beautiful shoes, jewelry and accessories...

The wire shelves and bland white walls weren't doing it for me, obviously. So I went in a bolder direction...

I started by painting the walls the most lovely shade of olive green- it's called Pup Tent by Martha Stewart Living paint at Home Depot. I can't find it online, but they have swatches of it in store. Then I picked up some simple {cheap} shelf brackets and painted them black. After this, of course we used our trusty Ryobi Circular Saw {also used @here and @here} to make the cleanest cuts for the shelves. Seriously, just a note about this tool- it has changed our lives! Basically, anything I can dream up around the house, the saw has allowed us the ability to create. It's super easy to use and very exact, which my husband loves {he's not as charmed by the little imperfections as I am}. We painted the shelves and I started unloading my shoes...

I found the Chinoiserie screen when we still lived in Connecticut, and it's the perfect decadent piece to add into the mix in here. It's also perfect for displaying some of my larger necklaces. To the left right when you walk in, is where I store the majority of my jewelry. I found this little campaign cabinet at a thrift store. I lined the drawers with velvet fabric so all of my baubles stay in place...

On the side under the window, I have cubbies for all of my flat shoes. On top I keep some of my lovelier, small purses and accessories. My bigger bags are on a shelf over the doorway...

And of course I cannot forget to mention my old tattered rug that makes the space for me. I've loved this piece for many years, and I finally have the perfect spot for it to live...

Obviously, I know I really lucked out in here- not everyone has the space for such a lovely shoe closet. However, I feel it is so important to carve out a space just for you in your home. Even if it is a lovely and perfectly organized drawer in your dresser or a basket where you keep you favorite things- make it your own and enjoy your space!
